Creating a new course AND new section to link through LMS

Creating a section for an existing course

 

If your institution uses a Learning Management System or LMS, you access your Echo360 content through the LMS. In some instances, the LMS Administrator does the configuration, so that all you do is log in and click the Echo360 link in your course and the appropriate Echo360 page appears.

In other cases, you log in to your LMS, add the Echo360 external tool link, then select which Echo360 section to link to.

Finally, some institutions require the instructor to create courses and sections, and then link to them through the LMS. The instructions on this page are for this scenario.

Creating a new course AND new section to link through LMS

Use the below instructions to log into Echo360 through your LMS and create BOTH the course and section in Echo360 that you want to link to.

DO NOT CREATE A NEW COURSE OR SECTION UNLESS YOUR ADMINISTRATOR HAS TOLD YOU TO DO SO.

NOTE: If the course for your new section already exists, you can select it from the Course list instead of creating one. See Creating a section for an existing course at the bottom of this topic for procedures, including how to search the course list.

To create an Echo360 course and section through the LMS

  1. Log into your LMS and navigate to the LMS course/section you need to link to Echo360.
  2. Click the Echo360 Tool link. The location of the link depends on your LMS and how the LMS administrator has configured your system. .
  3. Open the Course selection drop-down list, and select Create a new course, as shown in the below figure.Select course drop-down list with create a new course option identified for steps as described
  4. In the Create a new course dialog box, enter a Course code and Course name.

  5. Click SAVE.
    The Echo360 panel re-appears with the new course showing in the Course field.
  6. If necessary, select a different Term from the drop-down list. The Term with the closest date is selected by default.
  7. Enter a Section Code for the section you are creating.
  8. When finished, click CONTINUE TO ECHO360.

The Class List page for the newly created section appears in the Echo360 pane. From here you can invite students to your section, create your classes, and add content to each class.  

Creating a section for an existing course

If the course you need to create a section for already exists, select it from the Course drop-down list.

DO NOT CREATE A NEW COURSE OR SECTION UNLESS YOUR ADMINISTRATOR HAS TOLD YOU TO DO SO.

Because the course list may be very long, there is a Search field at the top of the list, allowing you to begin typing the course code, to narrow the list. This process is included in the below instructions.

To search the course list

  1. Open the Course selection drop-down list.
  2. Begin typing the course name/code into the search field as shown in the below figure.

    NOTE: If the course for your new section does not appear in the list, check with your administrator; you may need to create it. See the above procedure for those instructions.

  3. Select the course from the narrowed list of options.
  4. Select a Term from the drop-down list.
  5. Open the Section selection drop-down list, and select Create a new section, as shown in the below figure.

  6. Enter a section name and section code.
  7. When finished, click CONTINUE TO ECHO360.

The Class List page for the newly created section appears in the Echo360 pane. From here you can create your classes and add content to each class.
