Enable/Disable Public Links to Content

Some institutions do not want to allow users to share publicly available links to video content. The Disable public links toggle allows administrators to turn off the ability copy and subsequently share public URLs that link content in Echo360.

The Public Links toggle affects both Public Links to videos as well as Access Links to sections. When disabled, instructors cannot generate either of these types of links.

IMPORTANT: Live-streamed classes CANNOT be viewed via Public (unauthenticated) Access section links. This is because the Wowza servers that manage the live streams cannot guarantee streamed access to very large numbers of viewers. Recorded classes can be viewed via Public section links however.

To disable public links to Echo360 content

  1. Log in as an administrator.
  2. Click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. From the Settings menu, select Institution Settings.
The Institution appears at the top of the list and is selected by default.
  4. On the right side of the Institution Settings page, click Features.
  5. Under Features, disable the Public links toggle switch (it is enabled by default).
  6. Click Yes on the confirmation message that appears.

The Public links option is now no longer visible for any video content (for both administrators and content owners), and the Access Links option is no longer visible for sections/instructors.

IMPORTANT: When this feature is disabled, any existing public links will no longer work; users clicking a posted public link returns an error, as disabling this feature deactivates the association between the public link and the media or section.
